It’s engagement season! Brides are inquiring about their wedding dates and it is a great time to schedule your Catholic engagement photos.
Typically engagement season is spring and around Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, this year I am getting many inquiries in early fall!
Here are my top 7 tips for your Catholic engagement photos.

Try to avoid large patterns and logos as they will look too busy in the photos. These patterns will also look dated very quickly. We are photographing your heirloom photos and we want them to look great forever! For example, small dots or flowers would be okay, but don’t choose clothing with large writing or patterns.

For the guys, chino or khaki pants and button down shirt look great. Ladies should wear a dress (or two!). I’d recommend if you take photos with two different outfits to pick at least one dress. I would also recommend a midi or maxi dress.

Make sure to have your nails manicured and your hair styled in a way that feels like ‘you’. Please plan to have your nails and ring ready for close ups. Also, don’t try to style your hair yourself in a way that you’ve never done before; it just causes pre-photo session stress!

If you choose an outfit you hate, you won’t feel comfortable during the photo session. Choose something that inspires confidence. You will feel the most comfortable if you don’t have to constantly adjust your outfit. Flowy dresses are very flattering and we’ll get some photos of you twirling for your gallery as well!

Choose a location that is meaningful to you both: Maybe where you met or where you attend Mass together. Also, the more beautiful your location is, the more beautiful your photos will be.

One hour before sunset gives a golden tone to your photos.

Let’s have a fun experience, rather than feeling stiff, simply posing for a stranger. Get to know your photographer, ask why they do what they do. Talk to them and share the story of how you and your fiancé met.

Your photographer will give you tips for poses like walking, dancing, and talking to each other, which all help you to be yourself! I love to capture great candid photos and gets authentic smiles.
